Study On The Interaction Of Private Universities In Shanghai And The City (1905-1937)

Since modern times, as western Learning comes to China, many new schools rises. Private colleges and universities mounts to the stage of history. As one of the five earliest modern Opening cities, Shanghai is passed by the Western idea of the university. Shanghai has intricate relationship with Private Universities. City provides a fertile ground for Private Universities formation, rapid development, thus, private colleges and universities so as to develop quickly in Shanghai, such as Fudan University, the Great China University have emerged. Quantity and quality of modern Shanghai private colleges and universities is ahead of other cities, that has become a unique landscape in the history of Chinese senior education. At the same time, the university also actively promote urban development.This paper begins to expound focusing on interaction between private universities and cities, but also pays attention to the interaction of unstable characteristics between the two. The first part, from the perspective of the urban development, it analyzes what the city offers essential factor in the development of private colleges and universities. The second part, from the perspective of Private Universities, how Private Colleges and Universities promote urban development and which areas can performance. But limited to social background, private universities and interaction of the city are at the primary level, it can not be equated mature interaction. The third part analyzes the external factors and the interaction factors, we find the dilemma of the interaction between private universities and the city.
