Along with the continuous deepening of the reform of the national junior high school geography teaching material, the requirements of junior middle school students are also improved. In junior high school geography teaching, the map is one of the important methods in geography teaching, intuitive, image, the concrete reaction of geographic information, is one of the important characteristics of geographical discipline so it is urgent to improve the geographic map reading ability of students. In this paper, main points of five parts:The first part of introduction, mainly illustrates the problem put forward the background and discusses the geographical map reading ability research significance, the present situation of the research at home and abroad.The second part expounds the map to learn the theoretical basis of middle school geography teaching. This paper discusses the map learning education psychology theory basis.The third part is the new geography curriculum standards for middle school students’ability of reading requirements. Mainly introduces the main content of the image in high school geography teaching material system, and the connotation of the geographic map reading ability and composition.The fourth part is the performance of the geographical map reading ability for middle school students of the investigation and analysis. Students need to have this in real life.The fifth part is the main content of this thesis. Our teaching to improve students’consciousness to eventually use map awareness, and can really use map to solve various problems in life.
