It is an indisputable fact that physical activity is beneficial for the development of students’physical and psychological health. Adapted physical activity plays a unique and irreplaceable role on the improvement of adaptive behavior, the promotion of physical functional capacity and performance levels, the correction of body posture, the development of specialized skills and even the development of cognition and the adjustment of emotion. This research uses the questionnaire survey method, field survey method and interviewing method. It basics on the survey data of 85 physical education teachers from 36 special education schools in ring Bohai, Yangtze River Delta, Pearl River Delta, Western and eastern region and aims to investigate and analyze the present situation of physical education in special education schools. Investigation shows, most of the schools are less than 200 students and dominated by nine years of compulsory education, in which most students’ disability is mental retardation. What’s more, most physical education teachers in special education schools are young male under the age of 35 years old whose diploma mainly are junior college or above. All special schools set up the PE lessons, and class-breaking exercise is the most popular one in the special schools, but almost all special schools don’t have a particular goal of their PE lessons which may result of an aimless teaching. This is an increasing concern during the future special educations. The sports venues in special education schools are mainly consist of track & field ground and ball games ground (most are basketball ground and table tennis ground), while the other main equipments are fixed sports equipment and stationary game apparatus. The most popular equipments in special education schools are the sensory integration training room and music room and they are mostly used. More than a half of the teachers considered that the existing sports venues and facilities can basically meet the demand of their teaching. But actually the sports facilities and equipments of the special schools in remote areas of the northwest is still far from reaching the standard. Now the most urgent problems are the lack of the training of special physical education teachers, the input of the physical education funding and the redaction of the curriculum standards and teaching materials. After the investigation, we discovered the current most urgent problems in the special schools and will propose several specialized ways to solve the problems.
