English is composed of pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary. And vocabulary learning is the basic principal for us to learn English, it is the basis of language expression and the important content for establishing the language system. However, relevant research datum have shown that China’s English education lays particular stress on the usage, interpretation and grammar of words, most teachers adopt the traditional vocabulary teaching method as well. This kind of teaching method ignores using the internal relationship between English letters or English letter combinations to help students to memorize words.Based on the importance of vocabulary learning for English learners and the research situation about phonics applied in vocabulary learning in junior one middle school at present. This paper conducts an experiment on phonics based on the concept and principle of phonics and phonological awareness as well as vocabulary consciousness. The purpose of this research is to help the grade one of junior middle school students to improve their ability of spelling and writing by means of discussing the concept and the basic principle of phonics as well as the teaching procedure to using it in vocabulary teaching in grade one of junior middle school and stimulate their interest and improve confidence in learning English vocabulary.This research mainly uses questionnaire method, experimental method as well as test method in order to explore the influence of phonics to English vocabulary learning for grade one of junior middle school in Tian Gongdian school in Yubei district. The experiment includes three stages, the first stage is the questionnaire and test, which are about student’s spelling and dictation ability, the purpose is to prepare for the formal research. The second stage is phonics teaching during the experiment, the purpose is to improve their spelling and dictation ability. The third stage is questionnaire and test of their spelling and dictation ability after the experiment, the purpose is to test whether their spelling and dictation abilities as well as their interest and confidence in vocabulary learning have been improved or not.The research results show that the students, who have mastered the phonics have improved their vocabulary spelling and dictation ability. At the same time, it also stimulates their interest in learning vocabulary and improves their confidence in learning it. However, phonics has its weakness, its spelling rules are easily forgotten, which needs the teachers use different kinds of practice to consolidate and assist it in classroom teaching. |
