We cannot live in today’s world without science and technology.Technology plays an important role in promoting the social development in terms of economy and civilization. Citizens in modern society shall acquire a certain degree of technological literacy. With an increasingly high demand on this point, Chinese educator has attached great importance to developing people’s technological literacy. In particular, it has become a vital subject for teachers to educate talents to obtain technological knowledge and thoughts as well as technical skills in primary and middle schools.The “science and technology” is a comprehensive basic curriculum taught in primary school. It is aimed at fostering technology literacy of elementary students, enlightening their science and technological education. As a new course with a history less than 15 years, it has been piloted in some schools located in Yangpu district, Hongkou district and many other areas. Compared with the ”Nature” in primary school curriculum, this course attaches more importance to the integration between science and technology. It emphasizes more on the ability cultivation of design, selection and assessment with respect to the technology literacy. This course illustrates more about the relationship between the scientific and technology than the curriculum of “labor and technology”. Based on its features and requirements, teachers will adopt multiple teaching methods into classrooms, including observation, experiment,discussion, reference, visiting, investigation, competition and games. The course offers different technological educations including knowledge, practice and evaluations. The thesis mainly discussed how to select the strategies and methods applicable for the education contents to improve students’ literacy as well as their application and innovation capability.The thesis introduced the research background from the aspects of nation,the curriculum, students and teachers. Then it explained related research significances, for instance to improve students’ technology literacy from teaching, and highlighted the feasibility and necessity of the research. The author also referred to large number of references and illustrated concerningresearch achievements at home and abroad about the “ technology ”,“technology literacy” and “cultivation of technology literacy”. Moreover, the thesis defined the concept of “technology” and “technology literacy”. Based on the abovementioned preparations, the thesis introduced the research objectives, the contents, the methods and the research process.Compared with the cultivation of technology literacy in American class teaching method, the author made a text analysis to summarize the unique implications from the course of “science and technology”, which provided a solid foundation for this research. Based on the above research, the author analyzed the latest version of “ science and technology ” for grade five published by the Shanghai Scientific & Technical Publishers. It aims to introduce its major contents to disclose the merits and demerits.With the above theoretic construction and analysis, the author has got a better understanding of features for the seven major components in this course and three elements of technology literacy. Therefore, he designed new teaching strategies and methods different from the previous one and made a related case study.In the conclusion, the author summarized related analysis results concerned with technology literacy, the related teaching strategies and methods. It also included the limitations and problems existing in the research and prospected a further study.
