English writing is important to junior high school students. It is one of the four basic skills that English learners need to acquire. It’s also the main constituent part of Junior English Test. In recent years, Eng lish writing of Senior High School Entrance Examination tests students’ ability to use English synthetically. During the research, the author found that th ere were few Eng lish writing classes in junior high school. And the students’ writing is problem atic as well. The s tudents can’t live up to expectations about their writing ability.Memetics is a new theory which was proposed by Dawkins, British famous biologist. In our society, the concept of memetics can be used everyw here. In fact, there is a very close relationship between memetics and language. Language is one of the carriers of m eme, and it is also a kind of meme itself. All the words, sentences, paragraphs and chapters can be changed to meme, as long as they are copied or spread through imitation. Therefore, we can teach English writing by memetics. So this study applies memetics to the teaching of junior English writing to explore the effectiveness of memetics in junior high school students’ English writing.The study was implemented in the No.41 Junior High School of Hohhot, Inner Mongolia. The object of study are two parallel classes of Grade Nine, a total of 80 students. The study lasted 16 weeks. Firstly, the author handed out the questionnaire to collect the students’ opinion of English writing and th e problem of their English writing. Then, a pre-test was given to the st udents, and the results were analyzed the test through SPSS 22.0 software. The aim of this test is to ensure these two class were at the same level of English writing. After the test, one class was cho sen to be th e experimental group and the other was c ontrol group. While the experimental group took the m emetics English teach ing, the contro l group adopted trad itional English teaching. 16 weeks later, the author perform ed a post-test, and analyzed the data by SPSS 22.0.After the teaching experim ent, through th e research, it show s that the m ean score of students in experimental group is obviously higher than that of control group. Meanwhile, the memetics teaching approach greatly increase students’ confidence and interests in writing. Thus, the memetics teaching approach is helpful to improve their English writing ability.
