English writing skill is a reflection of English integrated competence.Writing teaching is playing a critical role in English teaching,meanwhile it is also difficult to English teaching.There exist some problems in junior high school's English writing class in China,for example,the schools and teachers do not have attached enough importance to English writing teaching,and students can not use English to express themselves accurately.So under such circumstances,the experiment tries to apply a new teaching approach,hoping to change this situation.In this research Memetics is introduced to junior high school's English writing class with the purpose of exploring if the writing teaching based on Memetics can improve students' writing proficiency and reduce writing blocks.This research is conducted in two ninth grade parallel classes and lasted from September,2016 to January,2017 in No.1 Junior High School of Chaoyang City.The two classes,class 7 and class 8,are named experimental class(EC)and control class(CC)respectively,there are 42 students in EC and 45 students in CC,and the English writing teaching based on Memetics is put into EC while traditional English writing teaching is still utilized to CC.There are two writing tests and questionnaire surveys.The research questions are as follows:1.Are there any blocks during students' English writing?2.Is there a change to the students' English writing blocks after using the new approach of writing teaching based on Memetics?3.Can the approach based on Memetics help to improve the English writing proficiency of the students?All the test data are analyzed by SPSS17.0.The experimental results show that the students have various blocks no matter in language,structure or content during English writing before the experiment,especially in language and content.After the experiment,results from questionnaires show that the students' English writing have changed a lot,that is the students' English writing blocks are reduced.And according to the analysis of tests before and after the experiment,the writing teaching approach based on Memetics helps to improve the English writing proficiency of the students.
