Classical Chinese embodies the great thoughts, profound wisdom and sophisticated philosophy of Chinese ancient sages. It reflects the social politics, economics, culture and other aspects of ancient China. This character of Classical Chinese determines the significance of the teaching of Classical Chinese, which may incomparably influence and edify the students. Therefore, the effectiveness of the teaching of classical Chinese is highlighted. This paper puts forward some strategies for the effective teaching of Classical Chinese, providing some references and thinking for the current teaching of Classical Chinese.This paper is composed of five parts.The first part is the introduction, which mainly clarifies the origin, the method and the significance of this study, as well as the content and the innovation point. It also clarifies the theoretical basis of this paper: constructivism, humanism and the inductive teaching theory.The second part is the literature review of effective teaching of Classical Chinese, which mainly clarifies the concept of effective teaching of Classical Chinese based on the researches of specialists and other teachers. What’s more, it elaborates the teaching requirement of Classical Chinese in New Standard of Chinese and further defines the connotation of effective teaching of Classical Chinese.The third part is the investigation and the analysis. This paper makes a survey among the teachers and students in junior high school, analyzes from three aspects(the characteristics of Classical Chinese, teachers’ teaching and students’ learning) and finally defines the problems in current teaching of Classical Chinese: difficulties in understanding Classical Chinese which is from ancient China, the monotonousness of teachers’ teaching and the students’ lack of interests and methods.The fourth part focuses on the strategies of effective teaching of Classical Chinese, which is the core of this paper. Aimed at the problems proposed above, the author states four strategies to effectively carry out the teaching of Classical Chinese: stimulate interests, vary the teaching methods, implement level-teaching and strengthen the learning methods. Stimulate students’ interests based on the acknowledge of various value of Classical Chinese, shorten the distance between ancient and modern China, apply web multimedia, network buzzword and songs in movies, create textbook plays and call for cooperative and inquiry-based learning. In addition, teachers should pay attention to level-teaching and the learning of underachievers. Meanwhile, teachers should emphasize the guidance of learning methods: cultivate students’ abilities through self study; promote students’ sense of language through guiding the reading; learn to transfer knowledge through induction and reorganization. These strategies has been illustrated through some famous teachers’ and the author’s teaching cases in order to guarantee the operability and practicality.The fifth part is the analysis of the effect of the implementation and further reflections. Some effects have been gained through the implementation of these strategies, for example, students’ subjectivity has strengthened, the ability of self study has improved, the studying efficiency has increased and the practical value of Classical Chinese has been promoted. However, there are still some problems need to be further discussed, such as the extension of the text, the teaching philosophy of the teachers and the application of multi-media.The content of these five parts is the author’s pursuit and exploration in the practice of Classical Chinese teaching, hoping to provide Chinese teachers with some enlightenment. Moreover, it is hoped that Classical Chinese can be popular among middle school students and play a vital role in Chinese culture inheritance.
