Chinese character teaching is an essential part of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages.However,the lagging of Chinese character teaching makes Chinese characters become a difficult problem for Chinese learners to improve their Chinese proficiency,especially for learners in the non-Chinese character culture circle.Chinese learners at Martin Luther King elementary school have many errors in Chinese Character writing,which means their study of Chinese character is not optimistic.Therefore,this paper chooses errors in Chinese Character writing of American elementary school student as the research topic.This paper adopts the methods of questionnaire survey,interview and statistical induction to make a statistical analysis of errors in Chinese Character writing among learners at Martin Luther King Elementary school and tries to explore the reasons of writing errors.This paper wants to provide some targeted and operable coping strategies to reduce the Chinese character writing errors of American elementary school students.425 cases of errors in Chinese character writing were collected in this paper.This paper makes a statistical analysis of these errors from both horizontal and vertical perspectives.From the horizontal point of view,the errors in Chinese character writing of Chinese learners in this school mainly include stroke errors,component errors,whole character errors and mirror errors.Among them,the proportion of stoke error is the largest and the proportion of mirror error is the smallest.And the four types of errors are subdivided into several types of errors.From the vertical point of view,this paper makes a statistical analysis of the errors in Chinese character writing among Chinese learners of different grades and draws a conclusion that learner's errors in Chinese character writing are in stages.Trough questionnaire survey,this paper explores the deep reasons of errors in Chinese character writing of Chinese learners in this school.After sorting the results of the questionnaire survey,this paper analyzes the reasons of Chinese character writing errors in Chinese learners from three aspects: Chinese characters,teachers and students.According to the errors and reasons of the errors analyzed above,this paper proposes five coping strategies to reduce the errors in Chinese character writing among American elementary school students :(1)Chinese character teaching should be conducted in stages according to the characteristics of Chinese Characters.(2)offer special calligraphy classes.(3)The Chinese character writing part of the homework should be more targeted and interesting.(4)Adopt teaching methods that accord with the cognitive characteristics of elementary school students.(5)Strengthen the training of the learners' Chinese character learning strategies.
