With the development of technology of computer and network, and the improvement of requirements to human being’s visual senses promote a morphological change of virtual learning communities. The original two-dimensional virtual environment based on text and images gradually is changing to the increasingly realistic and delicate three-dimensional virtual environment. Since 2003, Second life has become a typical representative of the three-dimensional virtual environments, It gains favor of linguistics, business, medicine, education and many other fields’ researchers, and became a innovative perspective of research of theory and practice in these areas. It also provides an interactive platform for situational teaching, experience teaching and and multiple teaching practical forms, such as virtual classroom, virtual experiments, skills training and so on in the network environments.Firstly, this paper analyzes and summarizes educational application status and functions of Second life and the theory and practice of teaching of virtual learning community. It founds that the traditional virtual learning communities exist in some issues, such as the form of a single content presentation, a lack of real situations and unable to generate a sense of reality and meet the emotional needs. The Second life of the educational function happens to be able to solve the many shortcomings of traditional communities. Secondly, the study reference for “7+2” learning environment model, which proposed by professor Zhong Zhi xian, and identifies the constituent elements of the three-dimensional virtual learning communities as five areas, including learning environment, learning resources, support tools, learning communities and learning activities. Moreover, the study also tries to design, construct and develop Second life virtual learning communities to form a virtual learning environment, which has virtual classrooms, virtual library, virtual conference rooms, virtual lecture halls and other diverse learning scenarios. Different learning tasks occur in different learning scenarios, which together support learners’ learning tasks of individual learning and group collaborative learning. Finally, the author selects learners who has been divided into two proceed to use Second life virtual learning communities. The first round is a small-scale trial that is in order to find new community’s deficiencies to teaching practice from aspects of the scene showed, avatars’ experience and interactive tools, and then modify, improve and optimize the community; the second round is to organize different learners by groups and sub-batches, the author observes and track records each group’s learning behavior, and investigates learners’ the psychological and attitudinal change by questionnaire. at last,the study proposes interactive learn based on Second life virtual community has a significant promoting role for improving learners’ attitudes, motivation, self-learning and collaborative learning.
