At present, China has the most elderly population and the elderly population grows the fastest in the world. Ageing will become the main population problem in China and the living quality of the elderly is the core of the problem as well as one of the hot topics in the current researches of sociology field. Scientific physical exercise is one of the important measures to enhance the living quality of the elderly and plays a vital role in improving their physical and mental health. Morning exercise is the main physical exercise form of the elderly. In the study, the elderly exercise group aged from 55 to 79 in Xinjiang is taken as the research objects; the elderly group doing no exercise is considered as the control group; field research is conduced in Urumqi, Kashgar and Aletai; questionnaires are distributed and collected there so as to study the status quo of urban elderly morning exercise in Xinjiang, understand the current situation of the living quality of the urban elderly exercise group, compare with the elderly group doing different morning exercises and the control group and reveal the influence of morning exercises on the living quality of the elderly. The paper aims to provide scientific means and methods of improving the living quality of the elderly in Xinjiang and provide the theory and practice basis for the government to solve the increasingly serious aging and lead it to go to positive and healthy aging society. The research results are as follows:Firstly, among the urban elderly morning exercise group in Xinjiang, the female elderly are slightly more than the male ones; the main force of morning exercise is the elderly of Han nationality; the number of female elderly widowed is greater than that of male ones; the educational level as a whole is not high; 88% of them are retired; the empty-nest elderly account for 60.25%; they have a good life safeguard in terms of housing, economy and medical insurance.Secondly, most of the urban elderly morning exercise group in Xinjiang hold morning exercises occupies a very important place in their lives; the main purpose of morning exercises is to maintain health; the most morning exercise projects mainly are soft and relaxed exercises; the number of people doing morning exercises together with others is greater than people doing morning exercises alone; some ones attach more importance to the environment of morning exercise sites; most elderly people doing morning exercise choose nearby locations and choose appropriate exercise intensity according to their own physical power.Thirdly, among the investigated urban elderly morning exercise group in Xinjiang, about 3/5 of them insist on doing morning exercises every day; 77.5% of them do morning exercises for more than one hour every time; the number of morning exercises every week and morning exercise time of duration are positively correlated to the positive happiness experience they get from morning exercises.Fourthly, the total score average of living quality of urban elderly morning exercise group in Xinjiang is 81.574, suggesting that the majority of them have very good living quality, and their overall appraisal of mental health is better than that of physical health; most of them believe their physical health may get better than that a year ago.Fifthly, age, gender, marital status, educational level, emphasis degree on morning exercises and the number of times of morning exercises are the main factors influencing the living quality of urban elderly morning exercise group in Xinjiang; other factors are related but not significant.Sixthly, the living quality of urban elderly morning exercise group in Xinjiang is significantly better than that of the elderly who don’t do morning exercises; morning exercises is of great significance in improving the living quality of the widowed elderly.Seventhly, morning exercises play an important role on the physical health, mental health and social support of the elderly.
