The main method of the students from the secondary vocational school to learn English is through the teacher’s teaching in class, so the effective teaching of the English class in the secondary vocational school is the fundamental guarantee for the students to make progress in English. The effective teaching of the English class in the secondary vocational school emphasizes the practicability and professional characteristics of English learning, and pays attention to the development of students’ abilities to use the language knowledge, which meets the needs of the secondary vocational education and teaching.The characteristics of the English in secondary vocational schools are secondary and vocational. The English teaching in secondary vocational schools is to focus on training the students’ English application ability in daily life and professional scenes on the basis of helping the students to master some basic knowledge of English and basic language skills to lay the foundation for their career, learning and development. English(Basic Module) covers not only all the professional knowledge, but also the vocational quality education to enable the students to apply the learned knowledge into the daily life and professional knowledge.The effective teaching of the English in the secondary vocational school refers to the teaching process of the teachers using or choosing appropriate teaching strategies and teaching modes and methods in accordance with the concrete teaching contents and existing teaching conditions to enable the students in secondary vocational schools to improve and develop their cultural qualities and vocational abilities under the meticulous design, organization, arrangement or reasonable guidance.This article is based on the idea of effective teaching, taking the “must and practicability” as its principle, and for the purposes of cooperating and serving the teaching of professional courses to explore the effective teaching mode of the English teaching in secondary vocational schools, namely the modes of importing teaching situations, raising questions, carrying out discussions, generalization and summarization, as well as back to textbooks.The curriculum standards in the year of 2009 clearly point out that teachers must have the ability to develop the curriculum resources, and creatively accomplish the teaching task. Based on the demands of the course, teachers should make an analysis of teaching materials, have a deep understanding of the students’ needs and levels, supplement and adjust the contents according to the teaching conditions and teaching environments, and creatively accomplish the tasks presented by the curriculum standards.In the teaching process, teachers should fully realize the importance of integration, not only integrating topics, but also integrating grammar meaning conformity and professional knowledge, and the professional knowledge is reflected in the effective teaching, which should include working scene assumptions and solutions of work-related problems.The effective teaching of the English in the secondary vocational school pays close attention to the students’ progress and development, and their comprehensive development in such three aspects as professional ability, methodological ability and social ability. The English in secondary vocational schools should take the emphasis on cultivating the students’ ability of language expression, social communication ability, and other comprehensive qualities as its major objective in order to improve their employment competition ability.Through the study of the English in the secondary vocational school, the students have preliminarily formed their application ability of business English, have developed good learning habits and improved independent learning ability; the students have understood and learned the Chinese and Western cultural differences, and have developed correct emotion, attitude and values. English is no longer just imparting of the language knowledge and training of the skills, but a cultural course of educating people to improve the students’ humanistic qualities in the English teaching.
