Research On The Influencing Factors Of The Parents’ Choice On Children Books In Lanzhou City

The child is different from adult, so the way to satisfy their demands is not like adult. Children books convey its information through beautiful picture, bright color,special modeling and others. This approach coincides with the development of children.It caters to children’s demands, is their partner and food for the mind. It’s significant to children’s development. “American academic Du Jing researched five thousand school children and found that there were high correlations between children of high reading ability and optimization of books.” So it’s very important to choose appropriate books for children.This article conducted a study of the influencing factors that affect parents’ choices on children books in Lanzhou city with the method of questionnaire investigation and interview. First, the researcher presented the differences that parents select children books. Secondly, the researcher analyzed each factor’s specific impact. On the basis of data sorting and analysis, the researcher summed up the problems and put forward some suggestions for parents to choose children books.The study found that the differences for parents to choose children books are as follows. a) Father’s academic has remarkable impacts on the forms and standards of selecting books, mother’s academic has remarkable impacts on the standards of selecting books. b) Father’s age has remarkable impacts on the method and the content of selected books, mother’s age has remarkable impacts on the standards of selecting books. c) The family monthly income has significant differences on the number of books children have. d) Children’s age has significant differences on the number of books they have.The influencing factors for parents to choose books are as follows: parents’ early reading concept and educational ideas, recognition of children books and external factors. The influences of early reading concept to parents’ choice on children books mainly embodied in the following aspects: the way of parents’ choice on children books,the content, forms and standards of selected books. Parents’ educational ideas has remarkable impacts on the forms and the standards of selected books. Parents’ recognition of children books has remarkable impacts on the following aspects: the method, content, forms and standards of selected books. External factors has certain impacts on the content of selected books, has little impacts on other aspects.On the basis, the researcher summed up the problems for parents to choose children books. Finally in view of these problems, the researcher put forward some suggestions for parents are as follows: a) The parents must understand the early reading correctly. b) The parents must choose books for children from the view of child-orientation. c) The parents must respect children’s difference, make clear the standards of good children books and check strictly. d) The parents must choose books for children themselves.
