Teaching model by the guided learning plan(GLP) which makes use of the GLP as the learning material and the teacher as the director aims to improve both the students’ abilities of learning autonomously and English learning achievements. It is a new teaching model which is more and more popular and also more researchers increasingly pay attention to teaching model by the GLP. The GLP is the students’ learning material correspondent with teachers’ teaching plan. The GLP is carefully designed by the teachers and based on the students’ learning situations and the learning materials. In the process of carrying out teaching model by the GLP, the teachers are the directors and the students are the centers. They learn by the GLP themselves at first and then the teachers offer the guidance.The thesis is made up of five parts. They are introduction, literature review, research design, data and analysis, conclusion and implication. In chapter one, the author introduces the background and the significance of carrying out teaching model by the GLP. In chapter two, the author introduces teaching model by the GLP in detail and summarizes the design and futures of the GLP. The theoretical foundations to support the experiment are also showed in this chapter. In chapter three, the research questions, subjects, data collection and analysis on the research are indicated. In chapter four, there are the analyses of the data collection. The last chapter is the implication and the conclusion.The author carries out the experiment in the NO.1Senior High School in Gaizhou for three months. The subjects are 90 students who make up of two classes in Grade one. One of the classes is experimental class taught by teaching model by the GLP while the other one is the control class taught by the traditional teaching model. The data collection is acquired through the two tests, questionnaires and interviews. And the analysis is with the help of the IBM SPSS and the Microsoft Excel 2010. The results of the thesis show that teaching model by the GLP is more effective to improve English achievements, learner autonomy and interest in the English reading learning. Hence this study is of some theoretical and practical value in the teaching of English reading in senior high schools.
