This thesis is based on Pirie and Kieren’s Transcendent Recursion Model, use interview as the main research methods to study three senior one students(denoted as S1S2and S3)’ comprehending about logarithmic function, discuss and analyze the following two questions:(1)Which level of Transcendent Recursion Model have these three senior one students’ comprehending of the logarithmic function reached?(2)What obstacles block their development about comprehending logarithmic function?According to the research:S1has reached Transcendent Recursion Model’observing level for his comprehending about logarithmic function; S2has reached Formalising level; S3has reached Structuring level. Further analysis about which obstacles block the development of their comprehending ability include:(1)Fail to establish the connection between the existing conclusions;(2)Fail to understand the connection and meaning between the independent variable and function value in logarithmic function and exponential function;(3)Lack of deep thinking on the correctness of the conclusion;(4)Lack the understanding of the previous knowledge;(5)The limitations in understanding inverse function.Based on the research conclusion, put forward three suggestions on teaching:(1)Guide students to know the hows but not the whys;(2)Focuse on the relationship between the logarithmic function and the exponential function;(3)"Combine numbers with shapes" not only from the shape to the number, but also from the number to shape.
