On Motivating Art Students’ Interest In English Learning In The Senior Middle School

This paper focuses on the research on motivating art students’ interest in English learning in the senior middle school. To cultivate new-style talents for the21st century, the Standards of the New English Curriculum in our country have made new demands for English teaching. The key lies in promoting both cooperation and task-based teaching so that the students could be stimulated to have an interest in learning and their cognitive levels could be updated. At present, there are many researches on interest cultivation at home and abroad which have made some achievements. However, there is little about art students’interest cultivation in English learning. As an English teacher in the middle school for many years, the author knows much about problems existed among art students in English learning and feels it’s extremely important for teachers to cultivate their learning interest. So based on some previous relevant researches, the author worked out a set of measures according to the art students’features in the middle school and an empirical study was carried out for a semester aiming to solve the following questions:1) How does an interest influence art students in learning English and update their ability to study independently and cooperatively?2) What kind of help does it offer in improving their results in English learning?This research is based on the theory of non-intellective factors in education. It is student-centered. Teachers, schools and families are all required to keep their eyes on training the students’ emotion and interest. The author’s two classes have been involved in the research. By taking measures to motivate art students’ interest in English learning, in comparison with an analysis of the practice of two classes, the author has conducted the pre-course and post-course questionnaires, the pre-test and post-test, and a post-test interview of the two classes. The feedback was positive. The author affirmed some problems and solved them. The findings are shown below:1) The way to motivating art students’interest in English learning has apparently updated their ability of learning independently and cooperatively.2) Via an increase of the students’ interest in English learning, their results have been greatly improved.However, its limitation existed is that the research was carried out only for one semester. Therefore, its long practice and further exploration are badly needed.
