Taekwondo is originated from South Korea’s diversified modern sports which iscombined both physically and mentally.It is a modern sports of cultivating one’s mind anddeveloping one’s character integrated with keeping fit. Taekwondo, which is also an importantpart of the Oriental traditional culture like Chinese martial arts, has a profound nationalcharacteristics and traditional spirit that inherits and develops the fine tradition of stressingetiquette and morality. In recent years, the sport is very popular with people in our countryand the majority of students and their parents love it due to its spirit of "etiquette, integrity,patience, self-control, indomitability”.Taekwondo emphasizing etiquette and advocating the positive concept of life guides lifewith morality and trains body with exercise which makes people enjoy it under fine culturalatmosphere. Insisting on scientific exercise can keep healthy body and keeping on positivehealthy life and study style can improve oneself. The students can find their own potential,cultivate practical ability and innovative spirit and as well as promote the formation of goodcharacter and morals of indomitable effort, unity, self-confidence, patriotism, etc. bypracticing taekwondo. As the effect of taekwondo practice is gradually confirmed, taekwondoclubs in Yantai are developing rapidly and taekwondo teaching as the form of school physicaleducation curriculum is increasingly perfected.In order to know the situation of taekwondo teaching in schools, and the degree ofteachers’ and students’ learning, understanding and loving of taekwondo, in this paper,combining the guiding ideology and the reform direction of middle school physical educationand health curriculum reform in our country, we have randomly selected20junior highschools from six aeras in Yantai as the research objects. Through these research methods suchas the literature materials, questionnaire investigations, expert interviews, wn have randomlyinvestigated some sports teachers and students from20junior high schools from six aeras inYantai. The survey found that middle school students’ expectations of taekwondo course ishigh, and interest classes of taekwondo have been conducted by30%high schools, and25%of the students have practiced taekwondo in extracurriculum, but most of the schools don’ttake taekwondo as basic teaching course. We Put forward the preliminary suggestions of theintroduction of taekwondo teaching in middle school sports in Yantai city by the elaborationof the importance of taekwondo teaching in junior high school physical education; theoffering course situation and the troule of promoting development of taekwondo as well as itscauses in junior high schools in Yantai city and the building of implementation countermeasures of the introduction of taekwondo teaching. The conclusions are as follows:(1) there are less taekwondo courses in junior high schools in Yantai; the developmentsituation is not good; the teaching of taekwondo courses is not standard; the professionalteachers are needed; the teaching content is not systematic and the requirements of students’learning taekwondo cannot be met.(2)under new standards, taking taekwondo sports as oneof contents of sports in junior high schools in Yantai city plays an important role in promotingthe healthy development of moral education in middle schools in Yantai.(3) physicaleducation teachers think it is very important to offer taekwondo classes in junior high schoolsin Yantai city; the outlook is very optimistic, and most teachers like taekwondo teaching.(4)related leaders should realize the importance of taekwondo course on the development ofschool sports; give strong support; increase capital investment, and actively carry outtaekwondo movement.(5) strengthen the taekwondo professional teachers team construction;increase the employed teachers training.(6) strengthen the standardization and systematizationof taekwondo teaching course system; choose the requirements to conform to the middleschool students’ physical and mental development, and in order to achieve the best teaching,choose suitable exercise intensity and difficulty according to the middle school students’ levelof knowledge and ability.(7) Combining with the actual situation of the schools, askprofessional taekwondo teachers from taekwondo associations and clubs to schools to teachso that students can be trained systematially and taekwondo can get enrichment anddevelopment.
