To implement the "Health First" Physical Education Ideology, the new curriculum standards proposed new curriculum ideas, abandon the "teacher-centered" the traditional teaching ideas, promote "the development of students as the center," the dominant ideology. PE Elective Courses teaching has become an important highlight of high school physical education curriculum reform, in line with the promotion of sports curriculum reform, Suzhou City, from 2004 onwards the implementation of teaching high school sports options, in September 2005 fully open the Sports and Health curriculum reform, schools have developed a Physical and Health Education curriculum reform plan, PE Elective Courses also begun to enter the practice stage. According to their different situation, lots of high schools determined their compulsory and optional teaching scheme. However, until now, PE Elective Courses system still not forms. Contrary to the PE Elective Courses model, lots of school return to the old fashion way. The reason why PE Elective Courses teaching failed in Suzhou is this paper focused to discover. This paper use questionnaires, interviews, literature, mathematical statistics and other research methods to carry out the research about Suzhou City high school sports teaching. Hoping all the materials that it revealed can analyze the failure and give us some practical guidance in PE teaching.The results show that the Suzhou four-star high school PE Elective Courses not widely implemented mainly due to:(1) the implementation of PE Elective Courses are missing, and practice goals are not clear.PE teachers focused too much on the test score, but not on the cultivating of habit of daily exercise.(2) Lack of PE Elective Courses system, which make junior school students hard to cope with high school PE teaching standards.(3) Lack of basic PE teaching equipment or even the ground, which limits students’ choice, even affect their enthusiasm.(4) Lack of PE teachers’ retraining and training of the second special continuing education, etc. which results in a physical education teacher is not effectively increase capacity, the impact of the effect of education and sustainable development options.(5) PE teacher’s sense of responsibilities and the differences between students also affect teaching effect.(6) Lack of professional sports options textbooks and school-based materials.(7) Various evaluation system make PE teachers hard to evaluate students objectively.Here are some recommendations:(1) the formulation and implementation of national or local guidance on the implementation of the Platform for PE Elective Courses should be strengthened.(2) Establish a more comprehensive system of PE Elective Courses focus on junior high school guidance guide the reform options in the test project.(3) Combine school sports elective course with teaching resources.(4) To strengthen professional training physical education teachers and to encourage teachers from their own professional interest in starting or expanding professional skills, attention to improving teaching methods.(5) Focus on the development of PE Elective Courses materials, at the same time encourage schools to form their own teaching data base.(6) To strengthen advocacy efforts on sports elective course, and guide students to make the option according to their own needs.(7) Establish a fair and reasonable teaching and evaluation system.
