Reading is one of the important ways for people to acquire knowledge, which is also an important ability of learning for students. However, what is familiar with and paid attention to so far is the liberal reading(such as: Chinese, English, newspapers and magazines, etc.). Moreover, students’ workbook and teachers’ explanation take the place of obtaining mathematics knowledge through independent reading by the students in modern education. Mathematics reading doesn’t get the attention as it deserves. As it is known to all, the cultivation of reading ability in mathematics helps students acquire mathematics knowledge, develop their mathematics ability, improve their performance and learn autonomously. Therefore, the investigation and study on junior middle school students’ reading ability in mathematics is of great significance.The article firstly took the methods of questionnaire and interview to find out the present situations in mathematics of the rural junior middle school students. According to the survey, most of the students lack reading consciousness and they have no interest in mathematics reading. What’s worse, they have difficulties in mathematics reading habits and approaches. Therefore, it is necessary to arouse junior middle school students’ reading interest, cultivate their reading approaches, reading habits, reading quality and psychology so as to cultivate their reading ability in mathematics.In view of the existing problems in the students, the author made practical research on cultivating junior middle school students’ mathematics reading ability through literature review and teaching experience. Firstly, the author is going to put forward guidance strategies from the following aspects: mathematics reading interest, reading methods and reading habits and the practice will be continued. Secondly, the author is going to put the cultivation of the mathematics reading into the teaching of every single day in order to further develop students’ mathematics reading ability. Through teaching, combined with textbooks and learning plans, the author is going to guide students to read, to explore new knowledge and to learn independently so as to constantly improve the mathematics reading ability; and then improve the self-learning ability and mathematics reading ability. After a period of practice research, the author found that the cultivation of mathematics reading does play a positive role in students on the base of testing and interviewing.As a teacher on the frontline, the author hopes to keep researching on the method of development for junior middle school students’ mathematics reading ability through the combination of theory and practice in order to be helpful for the future teaching, and to provide some reference value for mathematics reading education at the same time.
