"A nation’s rise and fall lies in education; the importance of education lies in the teachers." Teachers are the soul of a school, carrying the hope and future of a country. Secondary education serves as a link between primary education and university education, and thus has a vital position. This article mainly research in the structure of middle school teachers’ group development, teaching workload and salary issues in Changsha from 1927 to 1937. It also focuses on the overall evaluation of Changsha’s middle school teachers during this period, providing historical significance for the development of the modern education.This paper consists three parts: the introduction, the body which has four chapters and the conclusion.The introduction is the significance of the selected topic and an overview of the academic studies of middle school teacher group during the period of the Republic of China. It also elaborates the innovation of this article and some related definitions.The first chapter is a brief overview of developments in the middle school education in Hunan Province and Changsha during the period of the Republic of China. This part also explores the reasons why secondary education especially private education has developed rapidly.The second chapter uses the Hunan Provincial No.1 Middle School, Guangyi Middle School, Mingde Middle School, Yali Middle School, Zhounan Girls Middle School as the research objects, mainly investigating the teachers’structural features from aspects such as teacher’s origin, educational background, age, gender, etc, so as to further understand the actual situation of middle school teachers in this period.The third chapter focuses on middle school teachers’work and salary in the period of the Republic of China in Changsha. First it is a brief analysis of the middle school teachers’ daily work and qualifications in this period in Changsha, and then there is an analysis of teachers’ teaching hours according to full-time and part-time teaching. It is followed by in-depth analysis of Changsha high school teachers’real wages and benefits, and compared with other social groups, on this basis the author further researches the deep cause of the change of the teacher’s wages, and then discusses income’s effects on teachers’ life and even their education career.The fourth chapter mainly evaluates the historical position of Changsha middle school teachers’from two sides and focuses on analyzing the historical experience and enlightenment of the study of Changsha middle school teachers’group to today’s education reform as well as teacher team construction.The last part is the conclusion of this paper which argues that raising teachers’ pay and social status is still a top priority in today’s education reform and teachers’team construction.
