Vocabulary is the most basic element of language. Language forms a certain meaning of sentences through the link between words and words to achieve the purpose of people speak. Vocabulary occupies the most important position in English learning and English teaching, especially in junior high school. We should pay special attention to vocabulary learning and teaching in our learning and teaching. Using the more scientific teaching method should be fully considered and researched in how to improve the efficiency of learning vocabulary for the students effectively, how to enlarge the quantity of students’ vocabulary, and how to increase the retention time of vocabulary.Communicative teaching approach has been introduced into our country for many years. It plays the outstanding contribution role in the English learning and teaching. Communicative teaching approach not only cultivates students’ basic communication skills, but also let the students learn to use the language creatively. Communicative teaching approach takes people as the foremost. It takes the targeted and individualized teaching according to the different types of students to make the students give full play to the enthusiasm and initiative of communicative teaching approach.Communicative teaching approach is also frequently used in the domestic English teaching. It certainly appears many problems in implementing this teaching method for many teachers. There will be a lot of shortcomings. We can’t completely realize on-demand teaching in our country, so the communicative teaching approach is only suitable for small class teaching. However, the current class type of junior high school in our country is more than 30 people. The situation is the more students, the less opportunity for students to communicate in foreign Language. It can’t reflect the advantages of communicative teaching approach.This article is composed of the following content: the first chapter is the introduction part that introduces the research background, research purpose and significance of this paper, and what specific method the author uses in the process of researching the topic. We can see the theoretical and practical significance of this topic research.The second chapter is the literature review part of the article which introduces the definition, teaching principles, the research status in the domestic and overseas education field of the communicative teaching approach. This part introduces the relevant theoretical knowledge of English vocabulary teaching of junior high school.In the third chapter, the author applies the theory of communicative teaching approach into the vocabulary teaching class and researches it through experimental comparison. For the research of this article, the author chose the students of two different classes of Grade One in some junior high school as the research objects. The experiment class and the control class are the two samples of the demonstration research I tried to direct the English vocabulary teaching through the communicative teaching approach’s theory to test whether the communicative teaching approach can improve the speed of memorizing the words, lengthen the retention time of the words for the students, or have the effect to their vocabulary learning strategy. During the experiment, the author entrusted on-the-job teachers to conduct a questionnaire survey and two paper tests. The results show that the score of the experimental class that conducts systematic and effective learning with the theory of communicative teaching approach is higher than the control class which uses the traditional teaching method to teach vocabulary. Therefore, it contributes to increase the memorizing quantity of the students’ words, lengthen the retention time of the vocabulary for the students, and improve the teachers’ teaching efficiency through the communicative teaching approach in junior middle school English vocabulary teaching.
