Vocabulary learning plays a vital role in the whole language learning and the mastery of the vocabulary will directly influence the effective communication with other people.For the primary English learners,the most important part is to improve the primary school students' vocabulary and increase their language learning interest,which are regarded as the language learning basis for the future.In terms of primary school students,they have some physical and psychological features.For example,they are more active and restless.They are not able to concentrate on study for a longtime,they have relatively weaker persistence and perseverance in study.Besides they prefer more visualized and direct teaching mode.Primary school students don't like to spend large sum of time memorizing English words and they lack effective words memorizing strategies.Thus,the vocabulary learning is a difficult task for most primary school students.Therefore,the biggest challenge English teacher face is how to cultivate students' English learning interest and how to improve their vocabulary memorizing efficiency.Thereby the author of this paper wants to dig whether the application of the communicative approach is feasible to solve the following two questions:1.Can communicative approach improve primary school students' vocabulary learning interest?2.Can communicative approach improve primary school students' vocabulary learning efficiency?In order to explore the above two questions,the author has conducted an experiment in two classes.In this experiment,there are 80 students in total with 40 students in each class.Class one in this experiment is taken as the experiment class and class two in this experiment is taken as the control class.The duration of this experiment lasts for four months.In the experiment class,the vocabulary teaching mode is the communicative approach while in the control class,the vocabulary teaching mode is the traditional teaching mode(namely,the students are asked to read after the teacher's guidance and pronunciation and they are also asked to complete the corresponding paper tasks in or out of the English classes).In order to understand the students' English level before experiment,the author conducted a questionnaire,and a pre-test to check and record their answers and scores so as to make comparison after the experiment.During the experiment,the teaching content and teacher in both of the classes are the same,while there is only a varibale which means in the experiment class the students are taught by the communicative approach teaching mode while the students in the control class are taught by the traditional teaching mode.After the experiment,the students in both classes are asked to do the post-questionnaire and the post-test which are designed to test students' vocabulary learning interest and vocabulary learning efficiency.Finally,through the data collection and analysis,the experiment results show that the communicative approach is effective to improve students' vocabulary learning interest and their vocabulary learning efficiency.
