Master degree of teaching Chinese to speakers of other languages was established in 2007, aiming to train high-level, practical, multi-skilled, and internationalized professional personnel, who can master teaching skills with Chinese as second language and favorable cultural transmission skills, as well as intercultural communication competence, adapt to international promotion of Chinese, and be qualified for various kinds of teaching tasks. Sichuan Normal University is one the second group of the universities to gain the authority of master’s degree program of teaching Chinese to speakers of other languages, and started to enroll students since September, 2009. Although the university is located in the western part of China and has disadvantage to communicate with foreign countries, the university relies on its own resources and the attraction of Ba-Shu culture, tries its best to provide opportunities of teaching internship for students, and combines course learning, to promote students’ ability of practice. Practical ability is the important part in the training of master of teaching Chinese to speakers of other languages; on one hand, the master’s degree is professional degree, which decides the importance of practical ability; on the other hand, after graduation, students mostly will teach Chinese to speakers of other languages, which requires students to be equipped with qualified practical ability. To train students’ practical ability, the university arrange course learning and teaching practice, with which students actively participate in self-training; with the combined action of course learning, teaching practice and self-training, the training of practical ability is the best. Only with qualified practical ability, the training of masters of teaching Chinese to speakers of other languages is qualified.On the basis of theoretical research, this paper makes deep analysis on the current situation of the practical ability training of masters in teaching Chinese to speakers of other languages in Sichuan Normal University after conducting a survey with questionnaires and interviews, makes study on the elements of the practical ability training of masters in teaching Chinese to speakers in other languages. It is found that increased importance is attached to the training of practical competence in the existing training program, and students’ practical competence see improvement by increased practical training and more opportunities for teaching practice, but the said training can not meet the demand of students, who are Unsatisfactory about the effect of training, thinking their practical competence is unqualified, and therefore, the relevant training shall be further strengthened.Waseda University integrates theory and practice, English requires students to obtain one-year teaching experience in second language prior to admission and the U.S. requires students to have practice experience before graduation or obtaining diploma by exam, all of which bring us enlightenment that practice shall be given priority in fostering teaching talent of second language.At the end, this paper discusses the problems of the practical ability training of masters of teaching Chinese to speakers of other languages in China. For the issues, such as the lack of vocational system necessary for professional development in external environment, few professional setup of internal training, no emphasis on practice, and self-awareness and external motive as well take the lead, it puts forward four countermeasures for the improvement, namely, adapting to the outer environment and building the vocational system necessary for professional development, attaching greater importance to specialty during professional construction in the inner training and developing the specific named three teaching, strengthening the training of practical competence and boosting the application of practical competence, enhancing the practical motive that is characterized by interest and achievement.
