Cultural diversity is a sign of the 21 st century, in which economic communication between different countries has speeded up and the communication of the people all over the world are increasingly frequent as well. It is globalization that affects every aspects of the society, including not only business, trade and economy, but also the beliefs, values and behavior. In diverse culture, Australia aims to rebuild the national identity, seek the attribution of identity, and also emphasize education of citizenship awareness in which people treat social issues in a global perspective, pursue the common interests of human beings, respect other ethnic and culture, and recognize the citizenship identity of others.Nowadays, the key problem which Australia aims to solve is to train the multicultural citizen, who recognize their own culture, respect others’ culture, care for ecological environment and international affairs, and participate in public affairs actively under the environment of globalization with the deepening of globalization and the development of the democratic politics in the world. This article is tried to show the modern multicultural education mode of Australian in the global era by the analysis of the multicultural citizenship education of Australia in the end of the 20 th century, hoping to make contributes to the citizenship education of China in some degree. This article mainly consists of seven parts:The first part is to introduce the multi-culture and citizenship education, which aims to provides the basis for subsequent research and analyses.The second part is to introduce the national identity, cultural diversity and development of citizenship education of Australia in the global era, which is tired to discuss the changes of the multicultural process of Australia and analyze its influence to the citizenship education of Australia by the rebuilding of Australia, the changes of relationship between it and other countries and the reformation of citizenship education all over the worlds in the 1990 s.The third part is to analyze the developments of the multicultural citizenship identity of Australia. It describes separately the British subject, the Australian citizen and the multicultural citizen in global era.The forth part is to discuss several modes of the multicultural citizenship of Australia in global era, which includes the Studies of Society and Environment, the active citizenship education, the multicultural citizenship education in the “Discovering Democracy” in the end of 20 th century.The fifth part is to introduce some main modes of multicultural citizenship education in Australia in the global era, which covers values education, human rights education, environmental education, indigenous education, and global education and also shows the qualities that the multicultural citizenship of Australia in global era should have.The sixth part is to show the multicultural citizenship education of Australia in global era by analyzing and discussing the curriculum framework of Studies of Society and Environment of New South Wales-one state of Australia in global era, which analyzes the multicultural citizenship education from comparative, intercultural and global dimensions respectively.The seventh part is about the evaluation of the multicultural citizenship education of Australia in global era. It mainly analyzes the diverse culture of Australia and the development of its citizenship identity.The eighth part is about the conclusion and enlightenment, which part has not only concluded the multicultural citizenship education of Australia in global era, but also discussed the enlightenment of it to citizenship education of China in global era.
