Since many textbooks on one guideline policy was implemented, there have beenmany versions of the junior high school English textbooks in the whole country. Tothe region and school, so many versions bring freedom to choose, but it also bringsconfusion on how to select, which one is the most suitable for the development ofschools and students? It is obviously that textbook analysis is very significant. Englishtextbook is an important carrier of English teaching, so choosing a suitable andexcellent textbook is an important prerequisite for finishing the teaching goal.In this thesis, the author takes the Ren’ai Junior English (grade7) as researchobject. Firstly, the standard theories of textbook evaluation at home and abroad aresummarized, which can lay a theoretical foundation for the paper. Secondly, accordingto Cheng Xiaotang’s evaluation system, the author make the text analysis withcombination of full-time compulsory English curriculum standards (Ministry ofEducation,2011), including a basic introduction to teaching material, teachingguidelines of the textbook, content analysis of materials, design and structure as well asorganizations of the textbook and supporting material of the book. and each of theelements is analyzed in depth. Thirdly, the author adopts methods ofquestionnaire survey and interview to perform investigation and analysis on the currentevaluation of teacher and students. Through the research, the author masters the currentusage situation of the textbook, such as whether the text book is suit for teachers andstudents’ development, whether the students are satisfied with the textbook, teachers’view to the textbooks, etc. Through analysis of Ren’ai English textbook andinvestigation of teachers and students’ evaluation, the author intends to get to know andfind out the advantages and problems in compiling and usage. Moreover, somesuggestive solving methods for the usage would be given and some recommendations for the revision of the textbooks would be put forward, so that textbook writers canimprove the book better, teacher can use it better.the author draws the conclusion of this thesis through text analysis and the surveyresults of this edition textbook, this textbook has its own advantages, such as gradualorganization, colorful topics, illustration, flexible layout design, but there are somedeficiencies, such as large vocabulary, the unbalanced proportion of listening, speaking,reading and writing, too more urbanization information, teachers’ own quality couldn’tmeet the requirements for the text and so on. To solve these problems, the author givessuggestion to improve the textbook and thus make the book has a greater impact.
