The Third Plenary Session of the eleventh held in December1978raised the planthat put the respect of knowledge and talent into the "four modernizations" of nationaldevelopment strategies. Great importance was attached again to postgraduateeducation by the government and society, then opening up the good times ofpostgraduates, As high level intellectuals, postgraduate students master the mostcutting-edge technology and professional knowledge, therefore their socialresponsibility will affect the healthy, civilized, harmonious and rapid development ofour society, and will be related to the early realization of fully completed society, theearly realization of Chinese dream, the smooth completion of university moraleducation system, as well as the achievement of personal growth and success.In order to obtain more realistic and reliable data, the author adopts the methodof empirical research, and gives serious consideration to domestic and internationalresearch on the consciousness of social responsibility. The article clarifies the relevantconcepts about the awareness of social responsibility of postgraduate students,emphasizing the necessity to enhance their sense of social responsibility, andanalyzing the current status of China’s postgraduates’ awareness of socialresponsibility that on the whole, can be described as follow: they more vigorouslysupport the great wise leadership of the Communist Party of China, are moreagreeable to our socialist core values, and can be more objective and truly discernthings; With a strong sense of patriotism, they concern the development of nation,society, collective, and others, can seriously assume their social responsibility on theshoulders; During the postgraduate period, they are also keen on academic research,but with a strong utilitarian. Then from various angles such as social environment, theimpact of school education and their mentors, cultural atmosphere of the bedroomcommunities, families and education, this article conducted cause analysis and putforward relevant countermeasures. the novelty of this paper lies in the detailedanalysis of the two factors: mentors and dormitories, stressing the important role ofmentors’ power of personality and dormitory community environment in strengthengraduate students’ awareness of social responsibility.
