Nowadays, the knowledge of science and technology is developed rapidly. In order to produce qualified students, which could adapt to the change of the world, we need to reform the education style constantly. The reform of the teaching material is a very important part of education reform. As mentioned in new curriculum reform, the role of the teaching material should interest and inspire students and improve their scientific inquiry ability. So, this research compared the biology teaching material of high school between China and United States by using literature review, comparative analysis, survey and other method. The aim of this research was to ensure whether the study material in our country was connected to the word science curriculum reform and to give some suggestions to the application of this material and to the revision of in the future.At first, the curriculum standard and the characteristics of the two sets of textbooks was summarized. Then, we compared the setting up of the teaching materials, illustrations, after-school exercises, knowledge point arrangement and experimental design of genetics between two books. The results were as follows.After compare the program setting of two versions, we found that both of them had their own unique and rich features, and the setting up of American teaching material was more colorful.Compared to the exercises in Chinese textbooks, which was quite difficult, the American textbook had various kinds of exercise, and most of them were used to test the understanding of students to the knowledge in book, and student could find the correct answer immediately in the book. Thus, students could improve their skill to solve the problem after practice the exercises in American textbook.In the part of illustration, the number of illustration in Chinese textbooks was much more than that in American textbooks, while American book paid more attention to the quality and accuracy of the illustration.In the part of content arrangement, both of two versions were reasonable and emphasized the integration with other disciplines. Chinese textbooks pursued scientific preciseness and logicality while American teaching material was more comfortable and natural. The purpose of the design of experiment in both countries was to culture the inquire ability of student. The Chinese teaching material included two kinds of design of experiments, one kind was exploration experiment, and the other was validate experiment. In American textbooks, there was independent content of experiments, which was easy to understand, and there were more designs than in Chinese book.Conclusion:two sets of textbooks had the same basic idea that was to improve the scientific quality of students. Combining the advantages of two versions would be benefit to the reasonable application and revision of Chinese textbooks.
