The classical study of Chinese culture of PEP elective textbooks forhigh schools come into being on the background of new curriculumreform. Together with other fourteen elective textbooks, it constitutes theelective textbooks system of the new curriculum reform for high schools.The textbooks are rich in cultural content and the classical writings as theoutstanding characteristics, so it is one of the most distinctive electivetextbooks. The classical study of Chinese culture is a door of the highschool language courses. From the view of microcosmic, it contains richcultural connotation and language knowledge. From the view ofmacrocosmic, it shows the extensive and profound culture and the greatspirit of the Chinese nation. After the new curriculum reform in2003,Chinese courses of high schools are divided into two parts, compulsorycourses and elective courses. Compulsory courses are the basis of electivecourses, and elective courses are the expansion and extension ofcompulsory courses. The study of these elective teaching materials likeclassical study of Chinese culture, can not only provide students with alearning referent, helping students to expand language perspective as wellas cultural edification, but also play a supporting role. Therefore, thispaper chooses the classical study of Chinese culture of PEP electivetextbooks for high schools to study.This paper uses many methods such as literature research, comparison,analysis and induction. On the basis of a careful analysis, it summariesand analyzes classical Chinese culture study with academic researchresults, mainly from three aspects like the curriculum, teaching materialsand using strategy. First of all, from the perspective of curriculum, itconcretely analyzes the classical Chinese culture study. First, this paper investigates the significance of curriculum from society, students andteachers; In the second place, on the background of the new curriculumreform, it talks about how the Chinese curriculum standard unscramblesthe elective courses from objective, teachers’ teaching and students’learning; Third, this paper discusses the course as an elective course andthe relationship of the language compulsory courses, including thecohesion and the differences between them. Secondly, this paper analyzesthe classical study of Chinese culture in detail from the perspective ofteaching materials. First, it analyzes the teaching materials of textanalysis, including the selecting system, knowledge system, readingsystem, operating system and so on. Second, the characteristics ofteaching materials and advantages are arranged in cultural topics selection,the rich reading system and flexible teaching material contents and forms;third, it talks about the disadvantages of teaching materials. The selectionof theme is lack of quality of daily life of students; the textbooks are notvery reasonable in unit numbers and length of selection as well as setlevel of practice parts. Finally, in view of the advantages anddisadvantages of the textbooks, this paper puts forward some superficialusing strategies. One is to connect the compulsory content with its relatedelective materials as additional teaching materials; the second is to usemicro course to guide the students to grasp the key and difficult points;the third is to properly adjust the assignments section according to theneed of teaching.
