| Foreign language teaching has been or is being regarded as the focus of education reforms by the world. In our China, in last January, the Department of Education had declared that English should be taught to the pupils from the third year in all the primary schools in the towns and cities of the whole country. In September, a new English Curriculum Criterion in Compulsory Phase (for experimental use) had been published. The popularization of the Basic Education Curriculum experimentation started. Therefore, the Primary English teaching should meet the demand of the Curriculum Reform and the teachers and researchers should have a new understanding of it.During primary school period, especially the low-grades, students are in the cognitive stage of figurative thinking. The story-telling teaching method provides extremely broad imagination space and lots of experience of language for students. It also conforms to the students’ interest in learning English, cognitive level and experience of life. Successful story teaching will effectively promote the students’ language ability of comprehensive promotion.After the literature research on the basis of story teaching theme on journal, papers, reports etc, the author analyzes the literature information and discusses the English teaching methodology, then clarifies the definition of the story teaching method. After the confirmation, story teaching method is an effective method for teaching English. After research, author found that story teaching method is able to maximize the subjective initiative of students to learn, and improve students’ learning passion and efficiency. Finally, the author puts forward constructive suggestions on story teaching method and affirms the scientific nature and the feasibility of it. |
