As a communication tool of English, obviously communication ability is important.English Story-telling teaching method is an innovative method, which can improvestudents’ oral English ability, cultivate students’ ability of thinking in English, play aprominent role in improving students’ communicative competence. At present, teachersrarely use this method to teach oral English in many schools. On the basis of thepredecessors, this thesis puts forward "Five-Step English Story-telling". This methodincludes five steps: preparation, presentation, retelling, discussion and performance.This thesis applies these five steps to six stories including the Little Match Girl, theThree Little Pigs, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and so on. This method considerson teaching design, teaching arrangement, teaching method and the process of teaching.This thesis has the empirical teaching research in Class Three, Grade Two fromChongqing NO.68Middle School. According to the input and output theory, the authoranalyzes the factors that affecting the development of the oral English and tries to solvethe following three questions:(1) What is Five-Step English Story-telling in teachingEnglish?(2) How to apply it to oral English teaching?(3) What are problems in class?This method is based on the story teaching method and task-based teaching method.The teaching goals are finished by the way of listening, speaking and performing. Itgives their initiative and generates the plot step by step in the process of learning toimprove oral English.After the process of teaching, the thesis finds that "Five-Step English Story-telling"can improve the students’ comprehensive competence and stimulate students toparticipate in the class actively. This thesis only makes a survey. Each group issuspected of copying each other. The absorption is uneven between top students andunderachievers in class. Finally, this thesis gives some suggestions and confirms thatthe teaching method should be widespread and feasible in junior high school.
