This paper gives a clear and systematic explanation on teaching and learning of theactivity-teaching in geography in junior middle schools on the basis of studying the NewCurriculum Standard in detail, which was published in2011. The aim of this study is toconstruct and apply the activity-teaching approach in geography teaching, which will makeone of the most important new teaching methods demonstrate the new ideal of the NewCurricular Standard of geography better in practical teaching in junior middle schools so as topromote the teaching better. Start from the history of activity-teaching in geography, and thenit introduces its development and concept. It also makes a conclusion on its development. Onthis basis, we can establish the teaching system including the characteristics, the applicablescope, the teaching methods and the task of teaching of activity-teaching in geography injunior middle schools. Going deeply into exploring and discussing the teaching mode, theroles between teachers and students and the classroom tasks of activity-teaching in geographyunder the profound theoretical basis so as to grasp the basic characteristics ofactivity-teaching and make a thorough analysis of the activities in the textbook which waspublished in2011. The analysis is divided into three types: language, operation andexploration. According to the diagram and experimental data, we can see thatactivity-teaching plays a positive role in promoting students’ ability, which tries to reformthose traditional teaching modes like: knowledge-oriented and teacher-instilled. The aim ofstrengthening the research of activity-teaching in geography in junior middle schools is toimprove the teaching quality and level of geography. Analyzing the existing problems andreasons when implementing activity-teaching and trying to come up with some solutions willprovide a solid theoretical foundation and practice on the present activity-teaching ingeography in junior middle schools. We will try our best to make our teaching process basedon students’ activities and their active exploration. Through comprehensive and variousactivities, students’ thinking ability in geography, their subject spirit, practice ability and theoverall development of various qualities will be prompted.
