Geography is a strong practical discipline,which contains abundant practical contents.The new curriculum standard regards the geography practical ability,the coordinated relationship between human and land,the cognition about region and synectic thinking as the core quality of geography,and highlights that geography plays a significant role in the geography practical ability.The New International Charter on Geography Education affirms that geography education is of great importance to the next generation's cultivate of knowledge,skills and attitudes,claims that geography teaching aims at cultivating students' geography knowledge,geography thinking and skills,and further emphasizes the great importance of geography practical ability in the 21 st century development.This paper interprets the strategy of geography practical ability based on geography activity teaching.Geography activity focus on the students' participation,and is widely used in the present geography teaching.The implementation of activities involves in all aspects of the geography practical ability,which takes a accelerate effection to the development of geography practical ability.Based on documents,the paper summarizes the current research status of the related content.Geography classroom activities are divided into the cognitive activity,communication activity and operational activity.Combined with the specific content of geography practical ability,the cognitive activity includes diagram application and material analysis,which mainly trains students' information acquisition ability and analysis ability.The communication activity includes role-playing and discussion debates,which mainly trains students' expression ability and teamwork.The operational activity includes laboratory operation and hand making,which mainly exercises students' the ability of geography observation and operating ability.Through the questionnaire survey,it analyses the current situation of high school geography classroom activities and concludes that the present geography practical ability of high school student is very weak and it's urgent for us to improve.On this basis,it concludes the existing problem of geography practical ability,such as the limited facility conditions,the compact time of activity,the less participant,the single curriculum resources,the insufficient ability of teachers.From the existing problem of geography practical ability,this paper proposes five strategies according to existing problems which contents creating the practice environment by using of objective conditions,ensuring the practice time by planning activities,strengthening the practice experience by enlarging participation body,enriching the content by exploiting curriculum resources,raising the ability of teacher by training.Finally by case study,the paper elaborates strategies of geography practical ability based on geography activities teaching.It explores how to train students' geography practical ability based on the different types geography classroom activities and illustrates concrete steps of teaching with the relevant case.
