The concept of scientific literacy was put forward in the18thcentury, since then itcaught wide attention of experts and scholars from different countries. The degree ofcommon citizen’s scientific literacy affects a country’s comprehensive national strengthdirectly. In the early1990s, our country apply the international popular index system tomake a general investigation of the citizen’s scientific literacy. The measured level is lowat the begging while it increases gradually at a rate of.0.24%each year, which is closelyrelated with China’s strategy of invigorating the country through science, technology andeducation. However, compared with the level of the developed countries, there is till abig gap. As influenced by the factors such as politics, economy and education, thecitizen’s scientific literacy develops unevenly in different areas of our country, especiallyin the remote area of northern Shaanxi, whose situation is worrying. Education is thefoundation task crucial for generations to come. The author of the thesis thinks that it is agreat strategic significance to improve students’ scientific literacy by teaching in shanbeiregion. Due to high school is the special period to improve a student’s literacy in everyaspect and the basic concept of high school physics’ new curriculum reform is toimprove the scientific literacy of students, therefore it is an effective attempt to improvestudents’ scientific literacy in the physics teaching of high school, which has a vitalpractical significance. The main ideas of the research is: investigate the current situationof the high school students’ physical scientific literacy in shanbei area so as to find themain problems and its influence factors of them and then come up with correspondingstrategies.This thesis adopts literature analysis method and questionnaire survey method. Thequestionnaire survey about the present situation of the scientific literacy was made on thebasis of the result of previous research on scientific literacy in shanbei region and theexamples of900students extracted from6high schools. The data was analyzed comprehensively and deeply by the SPSS17.0statistical analysis software. Based on theanalysis, some main problems in the implementation of the scientific education in everyaspect like schools, students, parents and society are founded. In light of these problems,some strategies are put forward. The main contents and conclusions of this paper are asfollows:1.To investigate the current situation of the physical scientific literacy of highschool students in shanbei region. Seen from the overall result, the students’ scientificliteracy level in this area is generally low. Though the students master a certain scientificknowledge on the surface, the students’ acquaintance of the research process andmethods is rare and the students’ scientific attitude is not correct as well as the students’scientific spirit is deficient.2. To conduct the difference analysis on the basis of the students’ gender, schooltype, school location as well as the student and their parents’ education background. Thecharacteristic of high school students’ scientific literacy in shanbei region can be foundedthat boys’ scientific literacy is higher than girls, the urban high school students’ scientificliteracy is higher than the county students’, the demonstration high school students’scientific literacy is higher than the common high school’s, and the students whoseparents has a better education has a higher scientific literacy.3. In the process of the implementation of the scientific education in shanbei region,the problems can be found through the analysis: first, there is only a few schools reachthe demonstrative level in this district. The other schools do not have the hardwareconditions of implement science and education as well as improve students’ scientificliteracy. Second, some teachers’ scientific literacy level is not high, and they lack of theability to teach students science and education. Again, the students are influenced bytheir family environment greatly, but some parents do not have enough energy toimprove students’ scientific literacy.4. In light of these problems based on the survey and analysis, this paper putsforward the following strategies: first, improve the local government’ investment and layemphasis on the construction of schools. Second, appeal to the school’s administers toimprove teaching materials and change the traditional teaching ideas. Third, mobilize theparents to participate in making the term plan to raise their scientific literacy. Fourth,develop the teaching materials of the society from all walks of life so as to broadenstudents’ horizons. 5. A further consideration on how to improve students’ scientific literacy: schoolsand society should realize the harm of finishing lots of homework and the scienceeducation should be paid equal attention to the humanistic education.
