With the development of STS(science,technology and society.),more and more countries start to accept this concept and after several decades of years,it has become a worldwide scientific education reform movement which holding different purposes,and historical backgrounds.Based on its special function,the main purpose of STS is to make education adjust to the surrounding environmental.STS education in the United States has its representative points in its emerging and developing stage.Therefore,study on STS education and effect on the education in middle and primary schools in the United State,will exert a great influence on the scientific education in China. And many Chinese scholars have already realized this effect. However, people always use their traditional way to analyze STS education, in such a way they may ignore the profound social and cultural connotation.This thesis makes efforts to describe the historical and current situation of STS education,analyses STS education’s effect on traditional scientific education in the United States,and give some suggestions to middle and primary schools education in China. The article combines five parts.The first chapter gives some brief introduction to the meaning and structure as well as the research methods of this thesis.In the second chapter,the writer describes the emerging and developing of STS education in four aspects,including the social and academic backgrounds, content definition of STS education,aim and course system of STS education,and four features of STS education.In the third chapter,three stages are mentioned to discuss the effect of STS education on the scientific education in the United States.In the fourth chapter,the writer summaries the experience and problems of STS education in the United States based on the study and analysis of STS education.By learning the successful experience and avoid problems,we can promote STS education in China’s education in a more smooth path.In the final chapter,this thesis attempts to get the inspiration from the STS education in the United States and provide more theoretical support to promote STS education in China.The writer hopes to summary the positive effect of STS education in the United State, avoid the problems, learn from the experience based on the analysis of STSeducation, and finally make STS education play a more positive role in the scientificeducation reform in China. However, due to the academic lever limitation and lackof high qualified references and limited space, this thesis cannot give a thoroughresearch of STS education. The writer wishes to continue the research in her PHDresearch thesis, and more and more relevant thesis are expected to make contributionto China’s scientific education reform.
