| Scientific literacy can measure individual innovation capacity and innovationand development of society. But in our country, the scientific literacy educationstarted late, while in foreign countries, the research on it started in the1950’s,which was40years earlier than that in China. As early as the May4th Movement inthe last century, the slogan “Democracy and Science†was advocated. And evennow the development strategy of making the country prosperous with science andeducation is still being carried out in our country. So the scientific literacy has notonly been a basic quality persued by modern humans but also an important aim ofthe new science course education. However, substantial connotation of the scientifcliteracy has not been grasped accurately. The reform of science education in ourcountry has involved this problem, but we have no mature mode in either theory orpractice. Therefore, it is very important to do research on the present situation ofthe scientific literacy education of contemporary primary and middle schoolstudents. The improvement of scientific literacy of primary and middle schoolstudents is of great significance to both improving of the students’ comprehensivequalities more effectively and transforming the heavy population burden intohuman resource as soon as possible. The scientific literacy, which is an essentialpart of students’ growth and development, is the foundation and intrinsic motivateof the improvement of personal qualities. Students can make use of their ownscientific literacy to realize their self-value, requite society and influence thefuture.The paper first looks back on the history of the concept of the scientificliteracy, and then it concludes based on factor analysis that the scientific literacyconsi scientific and technical research of five aspects, that is, scientific knowledge,scientific methods, scientific skills, nature of science and scientific and technicalresearch. After introducing the definitions of the scientific literacy, the presentsituation of the scientific literacy of contemporary primary and middle schoolstudents is emphatically analyzed from two aspects, namely, structure and features.In this paper, its structure is objectively analyzed from four dimensions: the history,the structure and function, the psychology and the mode. And four characteristics of the scientific literacy of primary and middle school students are also summarized,that is, fundamental comprehensiveness, open richness, fair proportionality andoptional operability. Next, a detailed analysis is made of the characteristics of thepresent situation of the scientific literacy of primary and middle school studentswith philosophy theory. The paper also explains the conflict between “Knowledgeis power†and “Knowledge Centeredness†that is the narrow understanding oneducation concepts. Besides, it gives advice on getting rid of the single mode of“Subject–Object†in the process of education separated from the social life,illuminates that a course of contradictory movement exi scientific and technicalresearch between “literacy education†and “teachingâ€. Furthermore, the paperanalyzes the principle of the dialectical unity of “personalization†and“socialization†of literacy education as well as the balance and unification ofrationality and irrationality in literacy education. Finally, the paper sugge scientificand technical research that ideas of scientific literacy education and teachingshould be reformed, the organic integration of science and the humanities should bepromoted, and a reasonable education system of scientific literacy should beconstructed. The paper aims at offering reference to improving the education levelof the scientific literacy of primary and middle school students. |
