Marx had a significant impact on Giddens from the beginning to the end of the academic. Studies on the relationship between Marx and Giddens are insufficient and defective. The substantive relationship needs to be explored by study Giddens’ academic process. Therefore, it’s necessary for us to divide Giddens’literary work into different stages. We study by the method of combination of Philosophy and Social theory. It’s important for us to use the Analysis and comparison of research methods.Giddens learned from Marx in the details of knowledge and the methods of study. In the early stages of academic career, Giddens learn and reflect on the work of Marx, he learned from Marx not only the content, but also the methods of study. In period of Structural Theory, Giddens try to construct his own social theory and methods of study. He integrated different kinds of social theory and he took advantage of Marx’s thought achievements. In period of Contemporary Theory, on one hand Giddens Absorbed the essence of Marx’s literary work, on the other hand, he learned from other scholars’thought. We’ve come a long way from learning about Giddens’s theory, having reflections to inheriting with critique. We can say that Giddens’s theory goes further away from Marx’s, but also closer to his. Due to his knowledge structure, Giddens focused more on micro-scaled theoretical results related to individuals, therefore ignored some macro social results. As a matter of fact he didn’t have a profound and thorough understanding about the social impact the reproduction process had and the changes happened in modern capital society. This strayed from Marx since he put an emphasis on knowledge about economy and other basic subjects. But he had great knowledge about the foundation of Marx’s theory-"practice". Basing the theory on practice, he adjusted his thought according to the changes in the society. Even though this led to sacrifice on the profundity and universality of his theory and a great deal of criticism, we can’t deny the fact that he payed close attention to the foothold of his theory.
