As a powerful cultural symbol, pop music is considered to be a “mirror” which reflects distinctive characters of every era. Taiwan pop music impacted the China Mainland profoundly on all aspects since being introduced into there in late 20 th century. This article studies the spreading process and motivation of Taiwan pop music in China Mainland in 1970 s to 1990 s and reveals the China’s mainland social-cultural environment,communication channels and the changes of people’s aesthetic taste.It discourses the change of official’s attitude to Taiwan pop music which is from “comprehensive criticism” to “gradual acceptation”, the profound effect on mainland pop music and singers and the admiration of mainland people to Taiwan pop music.This paper illustrates Teresa’s music,campus folk and city commercial pop music.By combining the communication and effect of those songs on mainland of China.In the specific study,this article discourses this culture phenomenon in five chapters:The first chapter describes the beginning of Taiwan pop music and its vigorous process.It introduces and consolidates the concept and cultural characteristics of Taiwan pop music, describes the development process and masterpieces of these three types of songs and mentions Teresa’s life and achievements and the great impetus for pop music that Taiwan’s major record companies made by production and distribution of pop music.The second chapter discourses the spreading process of Taiwan pop music in China Mainland. describing in time node, this chapter introduces the changing process from "Semi-underground" spreading to comprehensive introduction of Taiwan pop music. Through detailed analysis of the propagated content of broadcast, tape, television programs, this chapter runs through the propagation of Taiwan pop music.The third chapter explores the motivation and reason that Taiwan pop music spreads in China Mainland. By analyzing the time background, people’s socio-cultural psychological needs of China Mainland, interpretation of the Taiwan pop music version and boosting by the mass media, this chapter outlines the factors for the communication of Taiwan pop music in mainland.The forth chapter describes the process that Taiwan pop music assimilates into China Mainland’s music.It discourses the changing attitudes of official in China Mainland to Taiwan pop music which is from “comprehensive criticism” to “gradual acceptation”. The absorption and “imitation” appeared in the field of music in China Mainland and the changing process from quiet admiration to national carnival also reflects the gradual opening-up and social development of China Mainland.The fifth chapter concludes the enlightenment that Taiwan pop music brings to China Mainland pop music. Through the analysis about Taiwan pop music spread phenomenon in late of 20 th century, this chapter concludes the problems of China Mainland pop music and the enlightenment that Taiwan pop music brings to the development of Chinese pop music.
