Diplomatic interpreting plays a very special role in the field of interpreting. Since China is gaining more global influence with more frequent diplomatic exchanges, diplomatic interpreting is becoming increasingly important. Due to its features, delicate handling is required when interpreters encounter expressions with Chinese characteristics, which can be a great hurdle. And this kind of expressions embodies various forms which require interpreters to better prepare themselves in Chinese language and culture and apply matching coping strategies.Based on Skopos Theory, this report adopts a specific case, Premiere Li Keqiang’s speech at Summer Davos, as an analytical material to study how expressions with Chinese characteristics are categorized for future in-depth study. By doing so, the report will help improve interpreters’ delivery so as to enable diplomatic interpreting to serve as a bridge for cultural exchanges.
