The Application Of Functionalist Skopos Theory Of Translation In Diplomatic Interpreting

Functionalist Skopos Theory of Translation is a scientific theory which introduces the definition of translation,the function of translated text,the roles of the translator,as well as the rules of translation systematically.It stresses the skopos of the translated text and the cross-culture features of translation.The skopos of translated text will decide what interpreting strategies an interpreter adopts.The diplomatic interpreting is a special kind of translation which has developed with Chinese diplomacy.It has the common features of interpreting,while its particularity lies in the political sensitivity.Under the perspective of Functionalist Skopos Theory of Translation,the interpreter has changed his role from only interpreting the contents of the spokesman to a higher level of boosting diplomatic and cultural communication.The classical Chinese poetry is a treasure of Chinese culture.If it is quoted properly,it will be very useful to strengthen the arguments and express one's feeling.Because of the differences between Chinese and English,it is impossible to interpret the content word to word.Functionalist Skopos Theory of Translation has provided the scientific basis for interpreters' flexibility in choosing strategies which include literal interpreting,free interpreting(explanatory interpreting,adding interpreting,and deleting interpreting).
