The Strategies Of Chinese Diplomatic Interpreting From The Perspective Of The Skopos Theory

With the improvement of China’s international status,China’s diplomatic activities are becoming frequent.The regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is one of the main platforms of China’s diplomatic activities,and it plays a pivotal role in shaping national image and safeguarding national interests.However,due to the seriousness and difficulty in diplomatic interpreting,interpreters often face challenges in achieving the original diplomatic goals.China’s unique diplomatic style determines the characteristics of its diplomatic language.In this report,the author analyzes and summarizes the characteristics of China’s diplomatic language,namely clarity,seriousness,implicitness.And under the guidance of the Skopos Theory,the author discusses the principles diplomatic interpreting should follow,as well as the corresponding interpreting strategies,so as to accurately and effectively convey diplomatic information,avoid mistakes and omission,and in the end,to effectively achieve its original goals of demonstrating attitude and political stand,safeguarding national interests and national image.The thesis is divided into five parts,including introduction,interpreting process description,theoretical framework,case analysis,and conclusion.
