A Report On The Translation Of Chapters 8&9 Of Killing Cancer-Not People

This is a report based on the translation of Chapters 8 & 9 of Killing Cancer-Not People written by Robert G. Wright, the initiator of the American Anti-Cancer Institute. This translation is a componential part of the translational Chinese version of this book. Since the source text is concerned with the domain of medical science and introduction to some safe and effective alternative treatments of cancer healing, it can be categorized into the technical text of informative type.In this translation report, we address the difficulties and solutions of translating technical and informative texts on the basis of text typology and communicative translation theory. In addition to those common translation methods such as amplification, omission and division, the report further finds the way in the application of zero-translation, and discusses the solutions to difficult points like the translation of technical terms, subjunctive mood, negative structures, etc. Through writing this report, we have enhanced our theorizing and practicing capabilities.The report is composed of five chapters. The first part is an overall introduction to the task, including the background, significance and goals of the report. The second chapter describes the work and outcome of the preparations and quality control stages of our translation. In the third chapter, we explicate the guidelines of translation and strategies employed. The focus of this report is Chapter Four, on which we exemplify the difficulties at the level of word, sentence as well as text. Possible solutions are also proposed in this part with the support of specific examples. The last chapter concludes the gain and loss in the course of this translation project.
