A Report On Translation Of The Former Part Of Preliminary Report On A Journey Of Archaeological And Topographical Exploration In Chinese Turkestan

21st century is an era in which economic and cultural activities become ever more frequent. Communication between people is becoming closer, thus the gorgeous and colorful ethnic features of Xinjiang attract more attention all over the world.This report is the translation of the former part of Preliminary Report on a Journey of Archaeological and Topographical Exploration in Chinese Turkestan, a book written by Stein on the basis of the results of the investigation and excavation during his first exploration in Central Asian in May 1900-1901.The report consists of five parts. With the guidance of the “functional equivalence”, the translator analyzes the features of the text and discusses the specific translation methods used to deal with difficult points at lexical, syntactical and cultural level. The last part is a summary of this translation practice.The significance of the report lies in discussing the application of translation methods used in the translation process. It is expected that this report could provide some beneficial references to translating materials related to intercultural communication.
