The English-chinese Translation Of Can We Finish The Revolution: Gender, Work-family Ideals, And Institutional Constraint And A Report On The Translation

The thesis consists of three parts, namely, the source text of Can We Finish the Revolution: Gender, Work-Family Ideals, and Institutional Constraint, its Chinese version made by the author and a report on the translation. The source text studies how institutional constraints, including workplace policies, affect young, unmarried men’s and women’s preferences for their future work-family arrangements. And the Chinese version is expected to provide domestic researchers with some latest materials for reference. The translation report starts with some background information about the source text and its language features, and then proceeds to a brief introduction to Skopos Theory, under whose guidance the translator finishes this demanding translation task. Examples are cited to analyze how relevant skills are employed to ensure or improve the readability of the translations, both at the lexical and the syntactical levels, and the skills include conversion, amplification, ommission, reversing and others.
