Nowadays, with the improvement of people's life, sports, especially football games, have become an indispensable part of many people's life, and sports commentary books begin to draw an increasing attention from sports enthusiasts. The basic function of sports is to keep people healthy, but as a form of social civilization, it also serves as an important means of cultural transmission. Thus, the translation of sports commentary books has great practical and theoretical significance in our society. This translation report is based on the translation of Eight World Cups(Chapter III & Chapter IV), a best seller of George Vecsey who is a sports columnist of New York Times. This report mainly analyzes the translation of words and the complementary information of sentences in translation practice under the guidance of Skopos Theory. This report shows that although there are a lot of professional words and languages, as well as numerous cultural backgrounds, the football text translation can convey more accurate and vivid information to the football fans while choosing the translation method under the guidance of Skopos Theory, and the main reason is that the Skopos Theory focuses more on translation purpose and function than the equivalence between the source language and the target language.
