In recent years, with the rapid development of science, the interaction between China and the world is increasingly close, English for Science and Technology(EST), an important tool to promote scientific and technological exchanges in various countries, has attracted people’s more and more attention, so people’s demand for English translation of science and technology are also on the increase. But the study of text translation of science and technology is still in its infancy, and the lack of perfect theory to guide translation practice. The Adaptation Theory, proposed by Belgian pragmatist Jef Verschueren, has received a lot of attention in the field of translation studies in recent years. Domestic translation theory researchers apply the theory in translation, exploring its use in the translation of literature(including poetry), foreign publicity material and tourism discourses. However, few people have studied EST translation from the perspective of adaptation theory. For this reason, this paper tries to intruduce the Adaptation Theory in the study of EST translation.Based on Jef Verschueren’s Adaptation Theory and by taking the translation of Nuclear Power English the author did in a translation company as a case study, the present thesis explores the guiding role of contextual correlates of adaptability and structural objects of adaptability in the E-C translation of technical texts, and summarizes the principle and techniques of translation for such texts. It is my further hope that this study can help improve the quality of Nuclear Power English translation and provide new ideas to the study of Nuclear Power English translation.
