With the dramatic development of globalization, medical science has been becoming one of the fastest-growing disciplines in the field of natural science. On the one hand, international communications of medical science increase frequently; on the other hand, a large number of foreign medical results are introduced to China. In this process, medical translation becomes a powerful tool that brings the latest medical achievements from abroad. Consequently, it is of vital significance to analyze and discuss the Chinese translation of English medical textbooks. In the process of this translation practice, the author finds that it is not easy to perfectly translate the English medical text. First of all, the translator needs to collect and learn the professional terms in medicine industry and has a preliminary understanding of its structure, style and ways of expressing through carefully reading the original text if he/she wants to accurately understand the content of the original. After that, the translator would inevitably encounter many difficulties from lexical level, syntactic level and discourse level. For example, the translator depends on the specific content when determining the meaning of words and expressions. Sometimes flexibly extending the meaning of words and expressions is also necessary. And the translator uses translation methods such as paraphrase, conversion and division when it comes to the nominalized structure, passive voice or long sentences. In addition, the translator should pay attention to the unity of the whole content and style. In the end, the translator should ensure the quality of the translation text by good proofreading. This thesis is a translation report based on chapter 30 as the source text from Core Curriculum for Lactation Consultant Practice developed by International Lactation Consultant Association (ILCA). This part centers around breastfeeding of twins and higher multiple-birth infants/toddlers. Under the guidance of equivalence theory, the author made a combination of equivalence theory with specific translation methods, striving to reproduce the closest natural equivalent of the source language message both in meaning and in style. In addition, through this translation project, the author realized that equivalence theory is of great significance in guiding the English-Chinese translation practice. Also, a perfect translation requires perseverant efforts and a rigorous professional attitude.
