| Learning the technique of Chinese landscape painting, one should learn from the tradition firstly, carefully study the essence and nature spirit of the ancients’ paintings, transfer the understanding of life into the process of studying, and finally, produce artworks that possess a contemporary spin. During the period of my post graduate study, I primarily choose the “Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains†by Huang Gongwang, from Yuan Dynasty, as my research interests, learn from his techniques and study his chirography. I fitted my life into the studying process, tried to paint from my understanding of Chinese landscape painting based on what I’ve learned, and finally produced my own artworks. Huang’s acquaintance and understanding of Chinese landscape painting is also mentioned in this paper, combining with my own point of view, this paper emphasizes the importance and values of copying in the process of Chinese landscape painting learning.Combining with my understanding of the graduate design process, this paper discusses the whole procedures of copying of the traditional Chinese landscape painting, furthermore, the important role and influence of copying in the process of my studying and my creation are also talked about in the paper. I deeply appreciated the truth that “copying†is a good way to know the spirits of the ancients’ chirography, yet the best way to mastering the nature of good fortune is “paint from lifeâ€. This paper presents my copy of Huang’s “Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountainsâ€, my artworks from life and artistic creation such as “Mountains and morning sunlightâ€, “Dwelling in the mist-shrouded mountainsâ€, etc. Through these works, features of Huang’s landscape painting are studied in aspects of outlining the textures of objects such as trees, stones, etc. and the use of painting techniques. |
