In recent years, the world raised a hot wave of learning Chinese. More and more people begin to learn Chinese as a second language. There are big differences between learners in age and cultural backgrounds, so they need an authority’s official language ability test platform to test their learning results. Under this background, the HSK gets more and more attention, and its influence is also increasing, especially after the new HSK appeared in 2009.There are many differences between new HSK and old HSK, especially in reading comprehension. First, there are more types of quesitons. Old HSK reading part has only two types of questions: vocabulary and short passages, while new HSK level 4reading comprehension part includes three types of questions: banked close, sorting problems and reading comprehension of the short paragraphs. Second, Changes in vocabulary test mode: Old HSK vocabulary of the test is mainly for understanding synonyms, but the choice of words filling in the blank of the new HSK four reading is to select words from the alternative words based on the context of everyday life,which pays attention to examining the word and its communicative function. Third, the new HSK focuses on the test of complex sentences. Complex sentences were not tested in old HSK while there are many complex sentences in the new HSK level 4. Fouth,the new HSK focuses on text comprehension. Banked cloze in new HSK and the last two questions of the short passage are both about the test on text comprehension.Reading comprehension has always been the most important in a language test. For the intermediate level of Chinese language learners, there are big changes in reading comprehension in the new HSK level 4, and we have less related research. So this article tries to study the new reading comprehension of the new HSK level 4.This article tries to study reading comprehension and test results. I select four Past Years’ Exam Papers of HSK level 4 and one simulated test paper, analyze question types and testing points and organize foreign students to test. According to the results,I classify the biased errors, analyze the reasons, and put forward the test strategy.There are six chapters altogether: The first chapter is the introduction to the selected topic, introducing the reasons, the current situation of the research, theresearch object, significance and methods.The second chapter is about the analysis on exam outline, proposition and types of questions of new HSK level 4 and compare them with the old HSK. The third chapter is the focus of this article, analyzing the testing results for the foreign students according to their different types of errors. The fourth chapter is to classify different errors and analyze the reasons. The fifth Chapter analyzes the types and the reasons for the errors and gives advice on targeted examination strategies and gives some advice to the students on how to answer the questions and some advice to the teachers on how to tutor the students. The sixth chapter is the concluding part, giving a summary to the paper.This article aims to provide the teachers with targeted tutoring strategies on new HSK level 4 reading comprehension tests, and to provide students with real operational test-taking strategies, so as to improve their Chinese reading ability.
