Applying Genette’s Narrative Theory as the research method, this thesis, through a detailed comparison of movie, TV series, dance, painting, and opera adapted from the prototype work Red Sorghum, studies the transformation of artistic expression from text to other art forms, and the narrative strategy of different forms of artistic works. The thesis pays special attention to the research of movie and TV series, and conducts concrete analyses of different works.Chapter One returns to the text, and places the spotlight on the novel Red Sorghum for the analysis of the elements and structure in the story through the perspective of narrative. Charter Two and Three study thechange in narrative strategy exhibited in the adaption forms of movie and TV series, respectively.Chapter Four focuses on the analysis of narrative characteristics in dance adaption of Red Sorghum. Chapter Five studies the narrative of the oil painting and Chinese painting works created with the theme ofRed Sorghum. Chapter six systematically analyzes the characteristics of the local operas adapted from Red Sorghum, and summarizes the characteristics of various forms of folk artswith the motif of Red Sorghum. The adaption of literature into movie and TV series has become a hit andtrend in the entertainment industry. Much research and many academic results as there are, most of the workfocuses on the "Aesthetics"study of the works and almost no thematic study of Red Sorghum is observed. Thus, the thesis fills this gap and conducts concrete analysis of the novel, movie, TV series, dance, and opera forms of Red Sorghum from the perspectives of narrative point of view, narrative structure, and narrative mode, to achieve an intertextual comparison of the different art forms, which is also the unique contribution of the thesis.
