Correlational Studies Of University Counselors’ Positive Psychological Quality And Perceived Social Support

Positive psychological quality refers to the relatively stable positive psychological traits, which based on the interaction between individual innate potential and environmental education. These psychological traits influence on the positive orientation of individual thoughts, feelings and behavior. University counselors’ positive psychological quality not only affects the personal physical and mental health, but also affects their performance in teaching. Meanwhile it can influence the students at some degree. Today, the whole society are focusing on college students’ mental health, as their most direct educators and administrators——university counselors, it should be taken seriously concern about their mental health. So far, the studies about positive psychological quality has achieved fruitful results, but in the field of university counselors is little. Therefore, there’s a significant meaning to do the research about the university counselors’ positive psychological quality.Starting with the definition of positive psychological quality,combining literature review and the open questionnaires, this research built the theoretical dimension of university counselors’ positive psychological quality. It established Positive Psychological Quality Adjective Rating Scale of University Counselors by item analysis and factor analysis for the preliminary scale, then tested the reliability and validity, did the confirmatory factor analysis of this scale. At last it explored the relationships between university counselors’ positive psychological quality and perceived social supporting. Here are the conclusions:(1)University counselors’ positive psychological quality has three dimensions: intelligence, affective attitude and will power.(2)Positive Psychological Quality Scale of University Counselors has a good reliability and validity, and it can measure the university counselors’ positive psychological quality.(3)The positive psychological quality of university counselors is above the average.There is significant difference in gender, while not in age and teaching age.(4)There is significant correlation between university counselors’ positive psychological quality and perceived social supporting, in which the friends support and other support for positive psychological quality have a significant prediction effect.
